area Churches to present “To Save a Life” in Mount Vernon May 11, 2011
Hello my Blog Followers, just wanting to post about an event that I am helping organize in our community to help our Youth begin a dialogue about the problems they are facing. This movie is a great vehicle to open the lines of communication with it’s frank portrayal of the social issues teens face, from drugs, alcohol, sex and suicide. The hope of the movie is to get Teens to look for A Higher Purpose, and look at their relationship with God. Change a Life, Save a Life is one motto from this movie, and we hope by bringing these topics out into the open we can help our Youth stay vigilant to make GOoD Choices as one bad choice can wipe away all the previous good choices. We have had two recent tragedies in our community which was the catalyst for showing this movie, but with Proms and Graduation Parties right around the corner it is important to show this film for those reasons too. There is also a parent viewing planned the week prior to the Youth event. You can see info in the photo posters posted in this blog![]()

Mount Vernon High School to perform “High School Musical”
It was nice to be asked again to help with the Mount Vernon High School Musical poster, and this year’s performance is Disney’s “High School Musical”. The challenge for this project was trying to get the whole cast seen in the poster, I think we did a good job getting this accomplished. While talking with Director Tom Stephens the idea of the cast autographing the posters came up so I took advantage of the extra photos we took of the cliques and made a back side to the poster for the cast to be able to autograph easier.
I am looking forward to seeing this production, they always do a great job with the musicals at Mount Vernon, and we have a bunch of talented young artists.
2011 Mount Vernon Family Benefit–looking for YOU to show off your TALENTS
Mount Vernon is such a beautiful place to live and one of the charms of this small town are it’s people. Another cool thing about this town is it’s talented and caring citizens. Through a chain of circumstances I am co-chairing this benefit with Virgina Roudabush and with a lot of help from Noreen Bush and Kristin Reimann, and the passion of the Cornell College students and Mt. Vernon youth and you get something special. In this post you can see the plans for a benefit to help 2 families with their medical expenses. Rubicon Photo is also going to set up a FUN Photo Booth this evening and donate the proceeds from the sales to the benefit–so if you are coming to this event make sure to come dressed in your “colors” you know your Mustang gear, Cornell Rams, Hawks, Clones, etc and let us recreate a nostalgic photo strip, similar to what Kmart photo booth produced but with professionally captured images with FUN poses. We hope you will support this FUN family event, it will be a great night out and for a good cause. One of my responsibilities is the talent show and we are looking for all kinds of acts so contact me for details on how to get your talents or groups talents showcased. We still have lots of openings to fill. Please help spread the word about this event. We have a Facebook page search for 2011 Mount Vernon Family Benefit.![]()

Helping Sabrina get the message out DON’T DRINK & DRIVE!
I have been blessed to have many cool opportunities in my photography career and have photographed several famous people in this role, like Lance Armstrong, and President George W. Bush, but I think last weekend’s session to help Sabrina Amundson with a Public Service Announcement poster will for sure one of the top memories in my profession.
Sabrina almost lost her life due to a stupid and selfish actions of a drunk driver a few days before Christmas. I called here a couple of weeks ago to ask how I could help her family out during her recovery and she came back of wanting to do some photos with her friends and maybe coming up with something to remind people to not drink and drive. You can read a great article by The Mount Vernon and Lisbon Sun that tells her story.
Sabrina is an awesome young person and I admire her attitude on trying to make a purpose out of her pain that has suffered at the hands of drunk young man who suffered no injuries from his actions. Sabrina injuries are going to be a life long challenge, but her determination to get back to her volleyball team by next fall is an admirable goal! If you ever worry about the future of our country with stories of problem youth—well I am here to tell you that young people like Sabrina give me much optimism that our future is bright. Thanks Sabrina for trusting me to create a PSA poster to remind people the decision is Black and White… DON’T DRINK and DRIVE! Update to this post I just created the back side of the poster today, hope to have these out for distribution this week, we will be asking for a donation to help Sabrina’s family with medical expenses.
